kernel project information:
Linux 2.6 Kernel Project - DC303 will be researching and documenting the
latest security features of the Linux 2.6 kernel. All members are encouraged
to work on existing projects or start new projects. If you are interested,
please contact magictao or mantis.
Kernel 2.6 Features
Latest version of the kernel is 2.6.7
- IPSEC Integration Capabilities
- NFSv4
- SCTP
- IP Payload Compression
- IPv6 Privacy Extensions
- POSIX Access Control List
- Netfilter State Synchronization (failover)
- Bridged Firewalling (ebtables)
- IP Virtual Server (www.linuxvirtualserver.org)
- NSA Security Enhancements (part of LSM)
- LIDS (part of LSM)
Goal of Project:
The 2.6 release of the linux kernel contains significant security enhancements over
the 2.4 kernel. DC303 will be testing and documenting each security feature for
strengths and weaknesses.
What is LSM?
The Linux Security Modules (LSM) project provides a lightweight, general purpose
framework for access controls. Adding enhanced access control modules to the
kernel improves host security and can help a server survive mailicious attacks.
Security research has provided many types of enhanced access controls effective
for different environments. The LSM framework allows access control modules
to be implemented as loadable kernel modules.

stego project information:
Stego Project - DC303 members will be evaluating the current methods of creating
and detecting steganography. Using various tools and techniques, DC303 members will
submit a total of 1000 pictures to the Stego Project lead. The lead will not know
(initially) which files contain hidden information. The Stego Project Team will try to
detect all hidden messages using the latest stego detection technology.
Project information has been put together. Please contact FoTM for details.
